Sunshine at Sandy Bay

The sun shone on the Dotterel Defenders last weekend for their Sandy Bay field event (meanwhile people in New Plymouth were up to their knees in flooding!). Check out these great pics taken by Emily Roberts of the keen crew!


We collected 150kg of trash from the beach. As you can see, heaps of colourful microplastics that look yummy enough to eat!


Check out the Coast blitz on Nature watch here: Some of the highlights included white fronted terns (below left) 76 banded dotterel (middle), and 4 NZ dotterel(right)! Awesome !!!


The Ngati tara Sandy Bay Society do a great job of trapping predators at Sandy Bay with support from DOC and TRC. This is super important for looking after the special wee animals that hang out there. We spotted some hedgehog (left) and cat (right) footprints during our coastblitz!
