Yoga Beach Cleans!

To kick of our 2017 event schedule, we have partnered with Rethinking Plastic Revolution, and some fantastic local yoga teachers, to run 2x Yoga Beach Cleans! Toiora te Moana – Toiora te Tangata – Healthy Seas, Healthy People was the key message!

The first event, at East End attracted about 40 people, who enjoyed a beach clean themed yoga class with Dave Ashworth. Then we hit the beach and collected 85kg of trash off the beach.

The second, at Kaihihi Road in Okato attracted 18 people. We started with a relaxed yoga session at the Okato park, with Holly Manigan and Peggy Preston. There wasn't too much trash on the beach, 35 kg, but we hauled up a huge bit of old plastic water tank, which would've broken down into lots of little pieces :(

Across these 2 events we collected 85kg of rubbish and contributed 58 active volunteer hours to looking after our coastal environment. Nice work team! Big thanks to our lovely yoga teachers, Rethinking Plastic Revolution, Kirsty Richards for some of the photos, and NPDC for sorting the rubbish collection :) :)
